Many methods have evolved for the measurement of reverberation times, either using noise cut-off or impulse excitation techniques.
The 959 for example will handle both methods, so you can choose a triggered gunshot, or by using the built-in noise generator, the measurement is straightforward with results being saved automatically into memory
An advanced algorithm gives automatic calculation of T60 values in third octaves, or manual control can be taken to optimise the least squares fit to the decay curves. Both RT60 and EDT can be calculated, and, depending on the measurement hardware used, external noise sources can be excited and controlled.

Building Acoustics |
|
No building acoustics system is complete without all the accessories, and we offer a wide range including sound sources and tapping machines from Italian company Lookline.
The DL301 is a dodecahedral (say that with your teeth in) sound source, which provides omnidirectional excitation according to all the latest standards. The source can be driven from a 959, or an internal noise source has been equalised for a flat response over the complete frequency range
The speaker comes in a flight case, with large tripod, and power amplifier.
A new release is the EM50 Tapping Machine, which uses an electromagnetic technique to drive the hammers. The big advantage of this is that the mechanism is totally silent—no more mechanical cams rattling around causing noise and wear!
It’s battery operated, and comes with a radio remote control, and the whole kit is supplied in a nice carrying case. We’ve already started shipping these, and customers are praising the build quality |

Reverberation time |
|
Measurements in building acoustics have often required specialised equipment, to cope with the range of different parameters needed for a full sound insulation test.
We can configure and supply complete systems, based on the Svan 95x series, which feature reverberation time as one of their options.
Record the source and receiving room spectra, using the built-in generator, and measure reverberation time and background noise for a complete set of data.
Download the data to your PC, and post-process the data for your measurement report.
To complete the measuring system, we also offer a choice of accessories such as sound sources, tapping machines, tripods, etc. |
